Lets talk about the M-Word….. Meditation (Part 1)

What meditation is not?

For many, meditation is the act of sitting in silence while you battle your thoughts to achieve a mind free of thought. Battling your thoughts can mean many things for different people. Some of us battle our thoughts by trying to will the thought away. Others battle it out by trying to ignore the thought completely. But, most find themselves fixated on their thoughts lost in a day dream going from the past to the future. On top of the battle, in my experience, I have found while in a relaxed state, my thoughts take on all new dimensions of reliving past experiences buried deep or worrying about the future. The scary part for me was when fixated on the future in a relaxed state, I constantly worried about how the future is going to happen and while dwelling on the past, I relived embarrassing moments, times of regret (oh always regret), puzzling over my could / should haves, and so on.

Name it, all these thoughts and emotions can resurface themselves and when they do an auto reaction could be to ignore it, think of something else, and hope it doesn’t come back. However, the irony that I have found is the harder I tried to ignore and battle my thoughts the stronger they came back. There are reasons for why our thoughts tend to pop into our mind at the least opportune moments which I will save for another post. All this is when meditation feels like work and actually taxes your energy rather than rejuvenate it. All of this is not meditation.

What meditation should be.

Meditation affects people many different ways but for me, meditation allows me to look past my thoughts and move into a space of quiet peace. In this space of quiet peace, I am able to begin seeing the path I want to take in my life, visualize it, and feel the emotion of it. Meditation also allows me to connect to something much bigger than myself which fills my heart and chest with an enormous amount of love. Other times, I achieve my space of quiet peace and stay there adding nothing else.

How meditation affects you is for you to discover. Some people have vivid visualizations that takes them through thoughts and ideas they swear did not come from them. Others can transcend into a state in which has been described to me as returning to the source, great spirit, god, or however you prefer to think of god. In this state a sense of oneness, peace, and stillness is felt while also watching your individuality fade away into a sea of tranquility. As to why our unique individuality is stripped when returning to god I will save for another post. I have never achieved this state of meditation but I have come close to it. Some people achieve a state of meditation that connects them to what can only be described as an angelic realm. When in this state, an overwhelming feeling of love and joy often will fill your heart and chest. Many psychic readers connect and receive messages from the angelic realm which from my experience the angelic realm is purely there to help us on our journey.

Achieving any of these states takes intent and practice. Think of intent as not willing something to happen but you just do it. For instance, if you want to carefully pick up a hot cup of coffee or get up from a chair, you don’t will it or even force it to happen. It just happens, this is intent. Don’t worry though, practicing can become a whole lot easier using tricks that work for me or tricks I have learned from others that work for them.

Things to remember for meditating.

One really important thing to always keep in mind is a method of meditation may work for one person but doesn’t do anything for another. In a way, meditation is very personal and takes a commitment to try different methods until you find one that works well for you. Once you have found your magic method, use it until it becomes easier and easier to achieve the meditative state you are after before coming back to other methods that didn’t do much you the first time out.

Meditation does not take hours unless you want it to. I have known people who can sit and meditate for hours on end but you don’t have to go to that extreme because a few minutes each day is all you need. You can meditate for 5 minutes or 15 minutes it does not matter. Each meditation session you do will almost always automatically let you know when it is time to come out. Sometimes the experience during meditation can be so rewarding you want to stay there for as long as you can.

Pick a spot to be your main meditation hub which can be anywhere. It can be a room in your home, under your favorite tree, an empty field, a garden, etc. The important thing is to try and meditate in the same spot whenever possible. This does many things including building an energy center around your spot which further assists you to achieve the meditative state you want.

Praying to your angels, god / source / spirit, ascended masters, past loved ones, or anyone else who is of positive loving energy to assist and be with you during meditation is a great way to help you achieve your desired state. It is important to always specify ONLY those of positive loving energy and ask your angels to protect you from any negative energy which means to do you harm. This may seem trivial and maybe even weird for some but it will help you in ways that only you can experience to believe. Try it out for yourself, one day mediate without any prayer and the next day pray before meditating so you can experience the difference for yourself. Something I do from time to time with undeniable results is ask my angels to open my heart and flood me with love and joy. I can’t describe the feeling but it is something I recommend you try. If you do choose to ask your angels to flood you with love, open your heart to them and trust you are in great hands.
